Step inside Thông’s inspiring world, where innovation is improving farming practices
Empowering farmers with knowledge
Agronomist Nguyễn Hữu Thông is passionate about knowledge sharing. An agricultural expert, he has a deep understanding of new and efficient regenerative agriculture practices, such as cover cropping, and intercropping. This he shares with coffee farmers across Vietnam, helping them farm with an approach that can optimize the use of inputs and – conserve soil. “Agricultural officials play an important role because we are the ones with access to science and technology,” he says. “We learn from our studies and share our collective learnings with farmers, for them to apply effectively.”
Meaningful results
Thông is inspired by the many successes he has witnessed first-hand. Seeing farmers implement new solutions feeds his quest for knowledge. “As an agronomist, I am passionate about learning more about new techniques,” he says. “I'll impart and introduce these to other farmers, in order to support better farming practices and help them improve their incomes.” This sense of purpose helps encourage farmers, contributing to improved harvests that culminate in great cups of coffee.
In 2025, more than 1600 field staff, including agronomists, have worked with coffee farmers around the world, in NESCAFÉ® Plan field programmes.
FAQ
In line with the Sustainable Agriculture Initiative Platform, NESCAFÉ® defines “regenerative agriculture” as an approach to farming which aims, through practice adoption, to conserve and restore natural resources, primarily soil, as well as water and biodiversity, while capturing carbon in soils and plant biomass, and to support farmers’ livelihoods.
