The current materials used to make NESCAFÉ DOLCE GUSTO coffee pods are designed protect the fresh taste of our high-quality coffee, by preserving all the complex aromas and flavours, so you can enjoy your perfect cup. However, this also means they currently can’t be recycled at kerbside.

But that doesn’t mean you just have to throw them away! We’ve partnered with CollectPlus to recycle our coffee pods easily.

Coffee pods purchased from the NESCAFÉ DOLCE GUSTO webshop are supplied with a recycling bag which can be returned to any CollectPlus venue, be it a local shop, petrol stations, universities or shopping centres.

Where I can find more information about the NESCAFÉ DOLCE GUSTO recycling service?

You can find more information about the pods recycling service on the NESCAFÉ DOLCE GUSTO website.

Why are all NESCAFÉ products not recyclable?

Due to the nature of coffee oxidisation, we require additional barrier properties in our packaging than other products. It’s these layers which make some of our packaging materials, such as flexible films, hard to recycle. However, we’re working on developing single layer materials, which still protect our products whilst still giving you the quality you expect.

Why does NESCAFÉ not use compostable laminates like other coffee brands?

We’re intensifying research into every aspect of packaging science to deliver the packaging of tomorrow, through the Nestlé Institute of Packaging Sciences. This includes research into biodegradability as part of the overall research strategy. Historically, biodegradable materials have presented challenges in consumer application, as they have not consistently broken down or have contaminated other waste streams.

We want to ensure that all packaging materials we develop can be used and disposed of easily by consumers, without having a negative environmental impact. The Institute will conduct world-class research to fundamentally rethink packaging materials and how we use them to deliver longer-term sustainable solutions.

What has NESCAFÉ committed to do to make its packaging recyclable?

We’re focusing on four key areas of improvement:

1. making flexible films recyclable

2. broaden our pods recycling service

3. removing composite materials from our portfolio,

4. reducing the use of plastic and removing black plastic from our packaging materials.
