What is an Americano?
An americano is an espresso drink that is made with hot water and espresso, it can sometimes be called a caffe Americano. It is made either with two or one shot of espresso, with varying ratios of water.
However, a true americano does not include milk, like a latte or macchiato. However, milk can be added, but this is the true traditional form of the drink.
How to make an Americano
An Americano is basically just an espresso (usually a double shot) with hot water added to it. Adding the water dilutes the taste of the coffee, but also gives you a full mug – this is why it’s sometimes known as a Long Black too. However, with our handy guide on how to make an americano, you won’t even need a coffee machine!
- Hot water
- 1 – 2 tsps NESCAFÉ AZERA Americano or NESCAFÉ AZERA Americano Decaff

- Your favourite coffee mug – just remember an Americano is supposed to be a full-sized mug
- A spoon for stirring
- Add 1 or 2 tsps of coffee to your mug (go for two if you want a stronger brew)
- Add 200ml of hot water (not boiling as this may burn the coffee)
- Stir and enjoy!
