The Americano has quickly become a coffee shop staple, but did you know it’s been around since World War II? Originally created as a way to make precious espresso rations last longer, it’s now a firm favourite for those looking for a delicious coffee that’s longer and not as strong as a solo espresso shot. How to make an Americano
An Americano is basically just an espresso (usually a double shot) with hot water added to it. Adding the water dilutes the taste of the coffee, but also gives you a full mug – this is why it’s sometimes known as a Long Black too. A spoon for stirring
1. Add 1 or 2 tsps of coffee to your mug (go for two if you want a stronger brew)
2. Add 200ml of hot water (not boiling as this may burn the coffee)
3. Stir and enjoy!
